Longing for Leggings?????

The oh so infamous leggings. Stylish. Sexy. Convenient. Cute. Comfortable.
Affordable. You can wear them around the house. You can wear them on a date. You can
wear them to the club. And for the fortunate, you can wear them to work! Leggings
here, leggings there, leggings everywhere!!!

Leggings have become the "it" thing to wear and its pretty understandable to see
why. But as stylish and convenient as they are, we need to be mindful of how common
they become. When I'm out, I notice that the majority of females are wearing
leggings. Females are all slowly looking like clones. We are walking around looking
like we are wearing a school uniform. Where's the individuality!!??

I'm not saying to stop wearing leggings, but I am saying to add a little variance
when you where them. Instead of wearing the common black leggings, opt to wear
another color such as brown, beige, grey, blue or even purple. Instead of wearing
plain leggings, wear leggings with a pattern or design. And let's not forget the
jeggings, they are jeans that are so fitting they can be mistaken for leggings.
Jeggings can give you the same legging look you crave.

Please take these tips into consideration when you put on your leggings............
tommorow. :)

One Girl~One Woman

When I first heard of the movie "For Colored Girls" I got so excited. I had the idea of getting as many women together that I could think of to go see this movie. I had visions of group discussions and moments shared with one another that would lead to healing and growth, I guess I kind of imagined a Womens Empowerment Conference type of setting.

Well after I shared my idea with a few women, reality set in and I realized that so many of us wouldn't be willing to participate for various reasons: You don't like me, you don't care for somebody I might invite, you only hang out with certain people, you don't understand the big deal about Tyler Perry making yet another movie about black people and our issues for all the world to see, you don't like crowds, so n so is too ghetto, such and such is too uppity etc... It has ALWAYS amazed me that we as black women are each others biggest critics. We are the quickest to bring each other down, find each others faults and nit pick at a sister until she has nothing left, nothing left to give and then we step over her and call her worthless. We take the prettiest women and tear them down for thinking "they are cute" but turn around and dog the average sista because "she know she should take better care of herself than that - can't believe she got a man!" We call strong women female dogs and accuse weaker women of riding somebody else's coat tails. We tell a big sista to put down her burger and turn around and criticize a skinny woman for not picking one up. We ride the loud mouth woman for "talking to darn much" and likewise torment the quiet woman for "Being too quiet and needing to take up for herself" Sad part is we don't discriminate, we talk about everybody!!!

Beneficial Beauty Tips

When it comes to make up, do you feel a little challenged? It is totally alright if you do because we all were not blessed with the gifts and talents that a make-up artist possesses. At Emerge, we do not want to see anymore "clown faces" walking the streets. The last we checked Halloween ended October 31 at 11:59 pm. To make your life (and face) a bit easier we compiled a few necessary make-up tips to make your daily glamour process less complicated.

* Wash your face daily to prevent acne and daily dirt build-up and to keep your face looking fresh and healthy.

*Change your make-up at least every six (6) months and clean your make-up utensils regularly. This ensures that hidden bacteria does not harm your face.

Goodbye Summer Good Buy Fall

Dear summer,
We are going to miss you oh so very much. We enjoyed rockin' the bright colors, the open toed shoes, the gladiator sandals, the rumpers, the tank tops, the flowing dresses and most importantly the bathing suit...... Until next year!!!

Yep! It is fall now and it is time to let go of all things summer. The nites are getting cooler, the days are becoming shorter and not all of last years fall wardrobe seems to be accomodating enough. Time to go shopping! This statement may excite you and frighten you at the same time. There's no need to call up your bank and check your account balance, because you can go on a shopping spree on a budget!!

You don't always have to go to pricer places to get the fall look you desire. There are alternatives!!! Try shopping at Ross, TJ Maxx, AJ Wright, Citi Trends, Wet Seal, Burlington Coat Factory, and Rainbow just to name a few places. They have all the jazzy fall trends you are looking for at a serious fraction of the price! (Pssssst! Don't forget to hit the clearance rack up first and then work your way to the front of the store) If you have the patience, shopping at flea markets, thrift stores and places similar to Platos closet can help you snatch a deal as well. These places may have used items, but you know what they say "one chicks trash, is another chicks friday nite outfit." And most importantly, shop online!! There are several deals there, you just have to know your exact size and your good to go with out having to leave the comfort of your home.

Theres nothing better than the feeling of looking hot and having a few extra bucks in your pocket. Here at Emerge we call it 'Beauty on a Budget' and who can disagree with that?

OMG!! Shoes...These shoes rule & these shoes suck!

Today, I was looking through photos from a fashion show and, not to throw any designers under the bus, but Chanel & Gucci are attempting to bring back the clogs. Are they really bringing back the clog? REALLY?

I was having a yard sale this past weekend and my mother placed a pair of open toe clogs (yes, I know...hideous) out near the front of the drive way. I told my mother that she should just throw the clogs away and that no one will buy them. Also, they will scare the customers away. She still placed the clogs near the front of the drive way. And believe it or not a few minutes later there was a laday smiling from cheek to cheek accusing MOI of not being a good sales person. She said, "I am not good at yard sales. How much do I want for these?" And in her hand were the clogs! So I told the lady "$20" hoping she would not want to buy them just so no human being would torture his or herself in a pair of shoes like that. Do you think she bought them? Yes...yes she did. Ugh!

The moral of the story is....

THESE SHOES RULE!

  • over the knee boots
  • pumps with knee high trendy socks
  • shiny and textured shoes
  • purple round toe pumps
  • concealed high platforms
  • cut out booties
  • fur booties
  • fringed foot wear

THESE SHOES SUCK!

  • clogs
  • mules

Just type in "gucci clogs" in google and see for yourself.

Also look on Youtube under "these shoes rule and these shoes suck" and see other's opnions.

  • Dress neatly and professionally

  • Stand until the interviewer asks you to sit
  • Maintain direct eye contact with the interviewer
  • Sit alertly (do not slouch)

  • Express yourself clearly
  • Know the type of work you are looking for

Here are some pitfalls to avoid in the interview:

  • Don't get angry at a question
  • Don't get into any discussions about your problems
  • Don't tell the interviewer how nervous you are

This is your show! "Showcase" yourself

*Remember this your chance to land that job. Put your best foot forward and make the best impression you can.

Who Gives Them the Right?

If you Google "fashion police" numerous articles pop up, from: Celebrity Fashion E! Online to The Fashion Police Fashion Blog in the UK and US. They even go as far as having a website, www.fashionpolice.org, where you can report people who you think violate fashion.

"Fashion Police" is a term which refers to the idea of an imaginary police force that makes sure that people dress according to fashion." (Wikipedia) Hmmmmmm.... Let's look up fashion and see what the definition of that word means. Fashion: "a general term for the style and custom prevalant at a given time...refers to costume or clothing style." (Wikipedia)

But who gives fashion police the right to criticize or ridicule people for how they dress? I'll tell you who gives them the right...THEY DO! They are self-appointed!! WHAT? These so-called self-appointed fashion police, who make their living off of making fun of other's clothing, do nothing but lower self-esteem and limit self-expression. Everyone should be able to dress how they want. Fashion is a personal style that expresses who you are to the world. No one shoul dbe worried about what other's think.

The people in the entertainment industry should take the higher ground and promote individuality and different fashion styles.

Here at Emerge, we will definitely do that!

Modeling Posing Tips Part 1

Breathe: Although sometimes concentration enhances a good photograph, obvious concentration can distract and often ruin a good photograph as well. Do not hold your breath for a modeling pose; always remember to breathe and appear at ease.
Posture: Bad posture is an unrecognized flaw in many people. However, for models, posture is a harmful flaw. Always remember to keep your back straight and your shoulders up. Slouching affects the mood of the photograph and enlarges the appearances of your stomach. In addition to your back and shoulders, always remember to flex your stomach muscles. Despite your weight or state of shape, your abdomen will appear more toned if you flex.

Does anyone have any good tips to share?
